Some people grow up wanting to be doctors, others want to be firefighters, and even some hope to join the military to serve our country. These are but a few of the job fields our young people believe they want to join when they grow up. When we are young, we focus on the jobs that help or protect people. We are a bit more emotional and innocent at that stage in our life. We haven’t been subjected to the grisly and grimy world that tends to blur our morals and ethics into a bludgeoned wreck of what used to be innocence. In essence, we haven’t become jaded at this stage of life.

At some point in time, there are those who actually aspire to become politicians. Yes, even young people desire to become politicians because they are the people in power. Politicians can create immediate impact and change in the lives of our citizens very quickly. However, the young people looking to hold these offices are often looking at it with an innocent point of view that allows them to see the inherent power as something they can use for the good of everyone. They know they can protect and help those in need and help foster a better land.

Somewhere along the line, between the young innocent eyes and the jaded adult eyes, things change. No longer are the political offices used to protect and serve the people, they are there to promote self indulgence, greed, power, money, and ego among many other selfish wants. On the way to achieving these political offices, our young politicians will have their innocence downright ripped from their heart and soul as they play the politics game.

There is no “honest” way to win a race these days. The vast amounts of money and lobbyists behind the major political parties cannot allow a level playing field. Even at the local level, the people with the greatest chance to attain office are those who have lived with the local in crowd of those in local power. The people with strong ties to the banks in town, the business leaders who run the chamber of commerce, the business owners who play the silent partners in the major dealings of the town… Even at the very basic local level, there is still a great amount of power mongering and ego driving.

Political aspirations usually start out as innocent as wanting to become a fireman, but in our current lifetime, nobody can make it through the process without become jaded, changed, and run by those who put them into power. In my mind, our politicians are all run by someone. There is always a man behind the curtain. That man may be a political party, groups with money beyond belief, and even people using blackmail. There is always someone to answer to once political office is achieved.

This is why we do not see any average citizen take any important office. All we are treated to are lifelong lawyers, political leeches, and political office families that pass the torch down from generation to generation as if it’s a rite of passage. The problem with this process is that these people have long forgotten what common sense is. They continually over think everything. They pour over statistics and polls of their supporting demographics in an effort to maintain votes for the next election. They fail to realize what is best for the country may not be the best for their own individual political aspirations.

Making the right decision is hard enough without trying to make everything politically correct or ok by your party’s so called standards. The simple test should be is it fair, and does it promote the growth of the United States while staying true to the Constitution. Our politicians have created such horrendous examples of laws that nobody can figure them out… just check out our tax laws.

We need that nature of the young to return to our lives. We need innocence to return. We need lifelong politicians out of our lives and we need real Americans in our offices to lead us. Who better to lead than the average citizen? The elite classes who run our country have been out of touch with America for too long. They need the boot and normalcy deserves a return to our lives.

The day has come that Barack Obama will officially become the President of the United States. I am so unbelievably excited that I can hardly put into words how much this day excites me. No I’m not excited about the fact that he is becoming our nation’s leader and focal point of the free world, but for many other reasons. This new day will bring upon us a day of closure. Again, no I’m not talking about the closure of the Bush administration, but for something altogether different.

If you have read more than a paragraph of any of my nearly 200 articles to this date, you know full well that Obama is not my favorite politician (He ranks in the same category as Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, and let’s throw someone of the same character in here, the ever brilliant political mind, Lindsay Lohan.) So if Obama is not my political savior and governmental messiah, why am I so excited about the day he takes the oath of office?

Number one, I will NEVER have to hear another report by the so-called respectable news outlets about what dress Michelle Obama is going to wear to the inauguration. My ears have nearly bled from such innate conversation about nothing. As these reports wore on, I felt as if I were the one sitting in Guantanamo Bay being subjected to water boarding. Seriously, do we care? Is her dress going to hire two million people and replace the nearly 10 trillion dollars the stock market lost last year? Get over it, it’s just a dress.

Number two, I will NEVER have to hear another report about how there has never been a black President in our country (although Obama is only half black…). I could care less about the color of this man’s skin. Racism is alive and well in this country and for those who think this is the nail in racism’s coffin, continue living in your dream world and send me a check on behalf of your consummate stupidity. We all would like racism to be a dead and gone civil issue, but we must face the fact that it still exists. Sweeping an issue under the rug does not mean it’s cured.

Number three, Obama will now be given the chance to put his so-called money where his mouth is. I can run my mouth as well as Obama can, but he has now been given the position to where he can either come through on his promises or fail like all the other politicians. Yes, all the previous politicians have failed to achieve their campaign promises simply because they cannot change everything in such a short time. There is too much money and too much power on both sides of the aisle to allow the sweeping governmental change that Obama has promised.

There are many other issues that I am sick of hearing about and I’m sure will still garner air time over the next few months and even years, but the time has come for Obama to show what he is made of. Is he a paper politician led by the vast wallets that helped get him elected? Is he deserving of the accolades he has received and the comparisons to MLK, JFK, and even Abraham Lincoln? Will his first term be his last? How will Obama deal with the enemies of our country abroad? Does he have what it truly takes to defend our Constitution or will he shred it like his policies and voting record portends?

Our mainstream media will be riding the coattails of Obama for quite a while so we won’t get a true feel for his administration for quite some time. But, I figure about two years into his Presidency, our nation will know whether we elected a true leader or just another Jimmy Carter. While I don’t agree with Obama’s policies, I do hope that he and his administration achieve what is best for our country. Policy and politics aside, I’m an American citizen and we need good to come of this. I can only hope that America is a stronger nation because of the next four years and not a weaker one. So, let’s get on with this show.

How many times did you hear the war cry of the Obama campaign, “Change we can believe in?” How many times did you hear the chant, “Yes we can” throughout the election process? I heard it enough times that I actually began believing that President Elect Barack Obama was truly going to affiliate himself with a set of confidants and cabinet members who were not lifelong Washington D.C. insiders and political sycophants. I thought how can a man who has made so many promises to so many people possibly renege on his entire platform’s stance. I thought how can a man who has promised so much change and routinely invoked emotion by quoting Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, and a multitude of other great American leaders, not follow through with his own agenda? I was actually beginning to believe… until he started naming his cabinet choices.

While I was always highly skeptical of Obama and his Liberal Agenda, I thought maybe, just maybe, he would be true to his word and bring new life and new blood to our government. I have never agreed with any portion of his Liberal Agenda, but I do subscribe to the necessary changes required in our governmental process. Even though his policies are against my beliefs, I thought maybe by bringing in some “change,” we would all benefit from it because the tried and true partisan politics we have experienced for generations would have to evolve and deal with the new regime for at least the next four years.

Skepticism is usually based upon seeds of truth and my skeptical nature was confirmed not long after the final vote was cast in the election. Obama has begun the monumental task of putting together his cabinet while also “trying” to satisfy his campaign promises. As it turns out, campaign promises made by Obama are just as easy to break as any other politician seeking office. Did any of us truly think anything different? Sure, we were all overwhelmed by the momentous victory Obama achieved and all of the important social ramifications it presented, but we, people who voted for him and against, were told he would bring about “Change we can believe in.”

Where has this “change” gone? What change are we seeing when every single name he has considered and chosen been a political insider from previous regimes? What kind of change can we believe in when they are all politically tied to certain policies and agendas? What kind of change can we achieve if the new ideas are the same ideas we’ve had for decades? Change implies new people, new policy, new agendas, and new direction. Change simply cannot be a regurgitation of the same old people, policy, agenda, and direction. Obama ran his campaign on change and the only thing he has changed is his postal mailing address come inauguration day… oh, and a new family puppy.

I am severely disappointed in the backbone of our President Elect for not living up to his simple promise of change. He has chosen to disregard his entire campaign’s platform because in reality, he NEVER was going to bring about change. A man in his position makes promises to voter groups and people of great power. In exchange for their support, he must provide something in return. His only form of repayment is to acquiesce to their demands if he wants his political career to continue. President Elect or not, he still must serve those who brought him into power… which isn’t necessarily the voters.

We all like to believe that our President is a man, or woman, who can be the flash point, the catalyst, the true direction maker of our country. But we know that’s not the truth in our heart of hearts. Our President is nothing more than a puppet, a face, a figurehead. The true power resides in the Congress and thus, in the voter’s hands. The President does have executive power, but true lawmaking ability and direction decisions are made by hundreds of other citizen elected officials sitting in the seats of the House of Representatives and Senate.

Obama promised change, but has done nothing but do more of the same. The change we can believe in requires our votes to oust the partisan political members in the Congress and start anew. Start with people who truly care about our country and most importantly, our Constitution. We focus too much on a single person when in fact he can do very little with his single voice, his single vote, or his single request.

Anyone who follows politics knows one thing and one thing for certain… Nancy Pelosi is as hardcore a liberal as the Democratic Party can construct a politician. You can verify her record and policy stances by quickly visiting any governmental tracking site online in case you need more confirmation of her “public service.” Recently, I wrote an article detailing my utter amazement as known left wing “journalist” Campbell Brown wrote an uncharacteristic article disparaging her party’s knight in shining armor, Barack Obama. Not to be outdone, I have now been completely floored by a statement made by current Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

After Obama’s clear win to become our next President and the Democratic Party’s steamrolling of Republican opposition in the Senate and House elections, the Democrats are in a position of distinct power. How they utilize this newfound power remains to be seen. However, the media has been throwing the term “mandate” around… Has the Democratic Party been given a national mandate which provides a political superhighway without roadblocks allowing the liberal agenda to be stamped into our public policy for all to abide by?

I’ve read that Obama’s win effectively “crushed” the Republican Party and thus the desire of the nation is equal to that of the Democratic Party’s agenda. I say that the media is overreacting to the final Electoral College vote and making sweeping generalizations of just how “crushing” of a win this actually was. In 2004, George W. Bush garnered more than 62 million votes while Kerry received 59 million votes. As of right now, with a few votes still to be counted, Obama has received 64 million votes and McCain nearing 57 million. Not quite the “crushing” knockout blow the media has been trying to shove down our collective throats. Looking into the numbers, that 7 million vote difference is largely made up of two states of voters, California and New York. Those two states voted for Obama by more than 4 million votes combined. That means the other 48 states accounted for less than 3 million votes for an Obama win, or just about an average of 60,000 people per state.

Is that a national mandate? I think not. America is not calling for the liberal Democratic agenda to be our nation’s policy. America voted Obama as our next President, but we did not provide him a clean slate to rewrite governmental policy into some sort of Liberal or Socialist state. Nancy Pelosi, the farthest left wing liberal known even knows this simple fact that the national media has seemingly missed. She states, “The country must be governed from the middle. You have to bring people together to reach consensus on solutions that are sustainable and acceptable to the American people.”

Wait a second while I pick myself up off the floor by this knockout blow to my jaw. Let me reprint that, Pelosi said “the country must be governed from the middle.” Words from HER mouth… In this day and age with the Democratic Party’s chest filled with pride and determination, the one voice of moderation is their Party’s MOST LIBERAL? Have I gone insane? Am I dreaming? Can this be true?

As I sit here flabbergasted at her publicly stated opinion AFTER her party dominated the election races in terms of wins, I will be honest, I expected her to be the first in line trying to push the liberal agenda forward at a breakneck pace. But the more I think about it, the more I understand her position and realize that she may not in fact, be a bumbling idiot like she appears to be the majority of the time. She has a job, power, and ego to protect. She knows that if she allows her party to go overboard on forcing their liberal agenda through the governmental pipe that is now under their unabashed control, they face a potential voter backlash for their actions.

Even though Obama won and the Democrats are in power, there are still nearly 60 million people who didn’t vote for their party. The Independents that helped vote the Democratic Party into power are not subscribed to their liberal agenda. If Pelosi allows her Party to rush forward and push their personal agendas forward, she knows that in the end, they will pay a price by being voted from office. We have seen this happen before… remember the Clinton and Gingrich days? Pelosi has at least learned from past mistakes made and hopefully she will stay true to her statement and direct her party as Speaker of the House to govern from the “middle” and “compromise.” It’s all talk and grandstanding until actual laws are created, debated about, and voted upon. Let’s hope she keeps her word because America doesn’t want the liberal agenda, what we want is stability and our country returned to us, not taken from us by a socialist state.

Political speculators have been trumpeting the expected record voter turnouts for our current Presidential election. After voting today and experiencing the gathered masses of the voting public and hearing extensive reports of the record absentee and early voting periods, I would comfortably say we are going to see an obliteration of the largest total amount of votes cast by our American citizens. At least the current campaign has sparked the interest of the American public to utilize their most important tool available to them, their right to vote.

When we utilize our right to vote, it forces the candidates to acknowledge the desire and needs of the American citizens. When voter apathy keeps the voter from the polling booth, they are effectively giving away their chance to be heard. Votes are all the political party care about. Polls on issues are one thing. Polls from likely voters are another. Polls from people who will not cast their vote are just a complainer, but polls of likely voters are direction and campaign deciders.

Today, we are hearing that we can expect over 140 million votes cast. In our history, the most votes we tallied came in 2004 with over 122 million. Speaking in terms of percentage of available voters, we are nearing record levels in that arena also. Our nation is expecting the highest percentage of voter age citizens casting their votes since 1960 and maybe even more. In 1960, over 63% of the available public voters cast their vote.

These two campaigns have been able to shake up the apathetic voter bases. At least that is one great accomplishment from this political endeavor even if neither one of them carries out their promises once elected. I said earlier that the political parties must acknowledge the desires and needs of the American voting public because the record turnout carries with it a double edged sword.

On one hand, the candidate who has garnered the support of so many new registrants and attracted so many previously apathetic individuals back to the polls will experience the needed push to win the office of President. On the other, now that they have been voted into office, the public expects them to come through on their promises. Yes, the candidate will win office because of the grass roots injection of voting significance, but fail at carrying through on the campaign promises and you will forever lose their newfound support.

Think about it this way. You promise your mom and dad that you will care for a new puppy and that you will feed it, clean up its messes, and take care of its health issues because you REALLY want a puppy. You will do ANYTHING to get that puppy so you agree to a litany of new rules and regulations handed down by your parents. It’s ok… all that stuff is secondary because you are getting what you KNOW you HONESTLY want… a puppy. But we all know how the story goes. A few days, weeks, or even months pass and the puppy gets big and less fun. It becomes more of a “job.” The promise of happiness that came with the puppy has all of a sudden lost its luster and it just isn’t worth the effort anymore. The puppy has not carried through on your individual idea of what the future would be.

In the end, the puppy must go because you are no longer effective at caring for it and your parents will not take care of your mistake. Obama is our “new puppy” (and no I’m not calling him a dog, you can insert new toy or whatever THING you feel may be personally palatable into this analogy). We see this new politician promising such great things for those who vote for him that our future without him cannot ever be as bright with a replacement. We will agree to a litany of rules and regulations that his party requires us to do for the completion (maybe) of his campaign promises.

Over time, the voting public will have a choice to make. Is Obama carrying through on his promises or did he lead the newfound voting masses like lemmings to a cliff? We all know politicians lie and they hardly ever carry through on their campaign promises because if their predecessors had carried through, we would have a much different political and social landscape. They just cannot satisfy their daunting promises.

So, assuming Obama wins which is the most likely scenario, how many promises does he have to break in the next four years before the very voting public that carried him into office reject his candidacy and look for an alternative? If you promise millions of people something and do not come through, the edge of the sword is sharp and cuts very deep. Obama while becoming a rock star in many of our eyes will have assumed a mountain’s weight of expectation. Fail to satisfy those promises and President Obama could be become an utter failure in the eyes of the world and our nation.

Here we are, less than a few days until we know who our next President will be. Excitement, tension, nervousness, and general anxiety may be filling your next few days depending on how involved you are with politics and the government future of our country. If you’re an Obama supporter, I would imagine you are in a state of ultimate giddiness “knowing” that come Tuesday night, Obama will be plastered across our nation’s media outlets as the President Elect. If you’re a McCain supporter, you are more than likely sitting in a nervous and anxiety filled heap of flesh awaiting the outcome of the popular vote and more importantly, the Electoral College counts.

I compare Obama’s political campaign to the New England Patriots team of last year. They were undefeated, rarely threatened, and were anointed as the best NFL football team ever to grace the playing field. They were even given superstar treatment as they converted their perfect regular season by having their final regular season game shown on multiple major television networks… a first. It sounds similar to Obama’s campaign does it not? He’s the front runner, the early appointee, the unbeatable superstar of the political arena.

McCain’s campaign is also comparable to a football team of last year, the New York Giants. New York had their issues and labored through many games while on their way to the playoffs. They weren’t seen as an NFL championship caliber team, but they had a fighter’s chance by being in the playoffs. Anything can happen when it’s a single elimination playoff. In the end, the dominant Patriots were beaten by the upstart Giants ruining their attempt at a perfect season. To many Patriots fans, they stole something that wasn’t supposed to be theirs. They didn’t “deserve” to be champions.

Now, we see this situation in our current political process. Obama has been in the spotlight since he entered the race and has received rock star status since “defeating” Hillary Clinton in the Democratic Primary races. McCain is basically the Republican sacrificial lamb similar to what Bob Dole was when he ran against Bill Clinton. However, McCain still has that fighter’s chance. Just like the Giants proved, anything can happen. Polls before the election are not actual votes cast. Come Tuesday night next week, we could see a 4th quarter comeback similar to Ronald Reagan’s comeback in 1980.

Yes, the McCain supporters are right to be nervous and worried because all facts point to a landslide victory for Obama based on current polls. But, until the actual votes are counted, he’s still in this race and until that last vote has been counted, he has not lost.

Excited or worried, we all still must vote. Vote for something more than money. Vote for someone who has the ethical and moral standards we can trust and believe in. As I’ve said before, don’t vote and you don’t get to complain.

Journalistic reports from our major media outlets tend to amaze me in the sense of their audacious and sensationalistic approaches to “unbiased” news. However, today, I am utterly amazed. I am beyond the simple awe struck, mouth agape, deer in the headlights look. When I first came across Campbell Brown’s assertion that Barack Obama was in deed, a liar, I nearly fell out of my chair because I thought the cow had just jumped over the moon and that Hell had in fact, frozen over. Brown has a show, titled “No Bias, No Bull.” On a side note, with a title like that intertwined with one of the most liberal and biased “journalists” on this planet, she should be serving a time slot on Comedy Central and not on CNN…

Why exactly would Brown call Obama a liar? Why now? What is her motive behind this? We’ll get to that, but let’s take a look at her statement first. Brown says, “One year ago, he made a promise. He pledged to accept public financing… Obama went back on his word… He broke his promise.” She did not “specifically” call him a liar… semantics… Brown was right in calling Obama out on his reneged promise. He publicly stated his position and then did the exact opposite. However, the timing of this is the issue for me. This issue is old, the campaigns have been running for almost two years and now, less than one week from the election and Brown comes out with this “hard hitting” ethical dilemma story?

Brown needs to conserve at least some semblance of credibility to be an effective journalist… even on CNN. Knowing that Obama has all but wrapped up the election and with only a few days separating his anointing as our country’s savior, she dropped this story upon her readers and listeners. She knows this is a non-story at this point and it will in no way affect the outcome of the election even though ethical and moral codes have been broken by Obama. So, she runs with it, props up her façade of non-biased reporting and puts a notch in her belt for credible journalism.

What was Obama’s motive for breaking his promise? Money, power, and greed of course. He rose over $600 million in campaign contributions. What was Brown’s motive for reporting something so blatantly against her character? Money, power, and greed of course. Brown cannot retain her job on a show labeled “No Bias, No Bull” and NEVER offer some sort of disparaging report against her true nature. People won’t listen to her and eventually will tune her out resulting in her subsequent ousting from CNN’s lineup.

Obama and Brown aren’t any different than the majority of the public in our world today. Given the opportunity for more money and power with the only sacrifice being a broken promise or an ineffectual report against your poster boy, the vast majority of us would take the money and run. Let’s face it… promises don’t carry much weight in our world today. No longer can we trust in a person’s “word.” No longer can we believe what people say and truly believe they mean it because they have ulterior motives behind their actions and words.

Brown has utterly amazed me in the fact that she would actually follow through with a story detailing an ethical mistake by the liberal’s greatest politician to date. However, after reading between the lines and understanding the motives behind her actions, it’s not so amazing after all. She saw an opportunity to write a story which can uphold her “stature” in the journalism world and not harm the central figure of her cause. Very effective and very smart on her part, I’ll give it to her.

Two weeks away from the Presidential election, I figured it was time for me to announce my candidate’s endorsement. Let the record show that I’m not endorsing anyone. However, since I believe that if you don’t exercise your right to vote, you don’t have any say or right to argue how things are being done by the elected officials, I will vote. Neither candidate can ever support 100% of your own personal agenda so you have to choose who best fits your model of what the office of President requires. I will cast my vote for John McCain but I will do so reluctantly. I’m not a rabid Republican Party fiend or Right Wing extremist. But, I am not and never will be a Socialist Liberal Democratic Party supporter.

In my case, I am choosing the lesser of two evils. Truly saddening is it not? Given our country’s current woes and economic standing, we are given two men to choose from that cannot invigorate enough voters to break a basic split down the middle of our country? Are we all that different? Sure, I will bet that come Election Day, the Electoral College will show a landslide victory for Obama and thus he will be anointed our country’s savior. But, when it comes down to it, the voting public will likely be closer to being split down the middle than a 75% for and 25% against vote. For every Obama supporter, you will find a McCain supporter. The Electoral College vote will not show that distinction.

Anyway, back to my topic of endorsements. This weekend and through most of yesterday, we were treated with the ground shaking, earth shattering, monumental news release that former Secretary of State Colin Powell is endorsing Barack Obama as his choice for the next President of the United States. After the vacuum inducing announcement has subsided and with oxygen returning to the room, my lungs can now provide my bloodstream enough oxygen and my consciousness has returned. I think I may have hit my head on the “Duh!” stick on my way down.

Seriously, did ANYONE truly believe Powell would put his political weight behind McCain or ANYONE in the Republican Party at this time? Powell felt the brunt of the Iraq war fiasco while in office during the Bush administration. He was one of the leaders pushing the WMD information forward and asking for votes. After the determination that our intelligence was faulty, Powell lost almost all credibility and thus left his post as Secretary of State as Bush entered his second term. Powell laid low, healed his wounds, and waited for the opportunity to deal as big a blow against those who made him look foolish. That time was and is now.

With about two weeks to go until we vote and with the campaigns winding down, Powell has chosen to cast his lot behind Obama. No more debates, no more major humps to overcome, just hold it steady until the finish line and it’s over. Powell’s announcement was one of the remaining few bullets the Obama campaign had to turn the tables versus McCain. It has been speculated for months that Powell was endorsing Obama, but the announcement did not come until after all the major campaign hurdles had been cleared. He was their shiny silver bullet to mitigate, nullify, and destroy any momentum McCain may have had after the final Presidential debate.

Powell is nothing more than a figurehead, a puppet, and a past figure of what went wrong and not what went right. With Powell choosing the “enemy” over his past alliances, it provided a supposed watershed moment for the Obama campaign. His announcement means absolutely nothing to me. Just as newspaper after newspaper endorses Obama, it means nothing. I equate Powell’s announcement with the support Paris Hilton and Alec Baldwin provide for the Obama campaign… this is publicity and nothing more.

Are there any other glowing endorsements coming Obama’s way? I’m sure there will be. Next thing I know, I’ll be reading that Oprah is going to be part of Obama’s administration when elected. Maybe even Hillary will be offered a position within his administration. She is in a tough position though. When he gets elected and if things go well, her window of opportunity will be closed because he’ll become a two term President. If she thinks he will fail, she will decline any potential job and run against him again in the next Democratic Primary. That is a story I’m interested in. The Clinton name in the Democratic Party has major weight and if she is without a job in his administration after nearly BEATING him for the nomination, something is worth thinking about there.

So, I’m voting, but I’m not endorsing. Don’t vote and you don’t get to argue. Don’t vote and you don’t get to complain.

What do you consider headline news? Personally, I think headline news is reserved for stories or live reports from events which have direct and immediate impact in our lives. The rest is news yes, but headline news? Today, while catching up on the latest world news, I hopped on CNN’s website and I was treated with some important headline news… news about the Federal Reserve chairman testifying before Congress that an additional economic stimulus package may in fact be needed to avert a worsening economy. In addition, I was able to catch up on the latest campaign politics and talking point issues amongst our leading candidates… very worthy of headline news and deserved bullet points. Finally, one of the major headlines coming out over the weekend was treated to a bullet a bit further down the list… the announcement of Colin Powell endorsing Barack Obama for President.

However, after a few of these “real” news items were exhausted, I was treated to “headline news” involving the impending divorce of Madonna from her husband, a report about a soldier’s dog returning home, and even a major story about a delayed Playstation game because of a music track within the game. I’ll be fair… CNN’s website actually lists the bulleted topics under their section labeled “Latest News.” While it’s not specifically labeled Headline News, it is in fact, their depiction of the most important, time sensitive information that the public needs to be informed about.

Maybe I’m being a bit too judgmental. Madonna’s divorce is a big deal to some even if I can’t name a single person that cares. Maybe her divorce is a story because there appears to be some issue between the two individuals revolving around Madonna’s belief in Kabbalah? Well, that would make it a story now wouldn’t it? It’s not “just” a divorce of a high profile celebrity. It’s a story about something that’s potentially charged with a newsworthy religious angle. The story about the soldier’s dog returning home? Well, news wouldn’t be news without at least one bullet point associated to our current war in Iraq and/or Afghanistan. No car bomb or civilian murders to report today? Let’s go with the feel good story then…

This brings me to the headline news bullet point of the Playstation game being delayed because of a musical track. Initially, you may think that it may have something to do with profanity or non-licensed material included, but you would be wrong. The issue revolves around a particular track that may offend Muslims. A musical track in the game contains words from the Islamic holy text, the Quran. Feeling the politically correct pressure, the game designer and distributor were forced to pull the product and delay the launch so they could remove the “offensive” track. Oh, now I get it. The delayed Playstation game receives headline news status because of the issue within… a potentially offensive musical track which “might” be offensive to Muslims.

Sometimes we are just trying too hard to be politically correct. While being overly correct, we are actually offending many. If our news agencies truly believe that headline status should be given to this particular subject matter, what are their angles? Most news today isn’t objective and is inherently biased by the conglomerate media giants. Given that ratings equal additional revenue, their reward is viewership and readership counts. They give a “best effort” at real news reporting, but they generally focus upon hot topic issues within society and not actual news. Let’s face it. “Real” news is boring when done correctly because it’s based upon facts and reported without sensationalistic undertones.

Knowing this, the media giants focus upon divisive issues and also hot point terms to instigate clicks, buys, and channel attention. We hear real news, but we don’t listen. When we hear hot button issues such as Kabbalah, Muslim/Islam, and Iraq, we listen. Some listen because they want to make sure their issue isn’t being treated negatively, others listen because they want the issue to be treated negatively, and others are just intrigued by the issue and want to know what all the fuss is about. Tell me honestly, are you more likely to listen to the Federal Reserve chairman testify about our economy or read about how much money Madonna’s husband may get in a settlement and find out how Kabbalah may be the root of their problems? One is intensely boring but very much headline news while the other is entertaining and not headline news but given the same status by the news agency. News is not news anymore. It’s an entertainment avenue.

Our current economic woes have handcuffed our running political campaigns. On one hand, it has given the two candidates specific talking points to showcase their ability to deal with imminent crisis. On the other, it has completely obliterated the need to focus upon education, tax reform, social security, military, and foreign policy as debating issues. Everyone is solely focused upon fixing our impending financial meltdown… and rightfully so.

Recently, John McCain settled upon the stance that he would be returning to the senate to hammer out the necessary federal involvement in the government sponsored bailout of the financial sector. McCain suspended his campaign for President with less than six weeks to go before Election Day. He chose to do this while embroiled in a neck and neck race separated by only a few percentage points that barely overcome the statistical margin of errors. The White House will be won by wooing the undecided voters.

Halting your campaign in such a critical timeframe comes across as one of two things. Number one, the Obama campaign and liberal media types will try and sway you to an opinion of “He’s blowing smoke. He’s only doing it for a media byte.” Secondly, he actually cares about his country and understands that face to face meetings and involvement solve more than any phone call ever can. McCain publicly gave Barack Obama a chance to join him in Washington (where Obama’s senate seat is waiting) so they could partner in an attempt to work out the best bailout bill possible. Obama rejected the idea and flatly said that “We should be able to multitask.”

Multitasking is of course one of the jobs of our leaders. No, they cannot ever sit down and worry about a singular thing, can you as a simple citizen? We are all multitasking every minute of our lives. McCain was, and is, trying to do what’s best for his country and that includes his presence in person at some of the most important debates and lawmaking discussions our generation has ever known. Obama, to simply respond with an inane rebuttal shows me something about his focus upon our country. Personally, I want a President who will confront issues in person, head on, and not give a percentage of attention to the dire issues we are facing.

I do not want a “Jack of all trades, King of nothing” as our commander in chief. I want someone who has the guts to take a step back, focus upon the major issue our country is facing and do something about it in person. I don’t want a conference call President. I don’t want an email or text message leader. I don’t want a public statement President. I want someone willing to get their hands dirty by showing their face, entering into the debate with opposition, and sweating with their patriotic blood boiling on the debate floor, trying to make our country better. Multitask? Sure, not the issue.

Obama, with his gimmick statement of “multitasking,” makes me believe that he doesn’t view our economic issues as being important enough to warrant his supreme presence. Stop campaigning? Delay the debates? Why? “I’m trying to win the White House can’t you see? These problems can wait until January when I take office and then I’ll multitask my way into making America my portrait of America…”

Some problems can’t wait, campaign or no campaign. McCain is right to suspend his run and return to his JOB! McCain’s and Obama’s JOB is to serve as elected United States Senators. They have voluntarily CHOSEN to run for President. Their JOB requires them to be present in Washington right now as we are facing disaster. If Obama cannot see this, then is he truly ready to lead our entire country? He has once again shown his lack of leadership when faced with circumstances requiring action now. The wait and see period is over. It’s time for Obama to state an opinion and live or die with it and stop being the hindsight is 20/20 candidate!
