Hollywood Politicians

How often do you hear about A-List Hollywood insiders being affiliated with our political process and parties? Personally, I sat in near hyperventilating anticipation for weeks and maybe even months before Oprah decided who she was going to sponsor… wait, I mean endorse. Similarly, I had to answer all of the polling phone calls asking who I will be voting for in November with an “I don’t know yet” because George Clooney hasn’t made his decision yet. Better yet, maybe I should wait for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to tell me who they are endorsing because we have so much in common… Since when did any of these Hollywood types have any ties to the reality of everyday life in America? Do you have anything in common with these A-Listers outside of breathing the same air?

Celebrities have always been involved in politics and not just from the movie industry. However, since Ronald Reagan was elected, it appears that any celebrity with any political aspirations believes they are Presidential material… well maybe at least material for the Senate, House, or even State Governor. Of course they are citizens and have a right to pursue any job, but in reality, how can the views of someone living in houses that cost $10 million, drives a fleet of foreign made sports cars, owns their own private jets, and makes millions per movie be like the views of the common working citizen trying to support his family? Views change as money and power increase.

Recently, Lindsay Lohan threw her hat into the political ring with a thought provoking statement about Vice Presidential Sarah Palin, “’Palin’ is a narrow minded, media obsessed homophobe.” Likewise, her “counterpart,” Samantha Ronson, jumped in to support her with the following plea for help, “if you’re in doubt- vote for Obama! Mainly because if she gets elected my green card probably won’t get renewed.” Not to be outdone, Pamela Anderson gave us the following awe inspiring tidbit that I’m sure will be talked about in political science classes from here to eternity, “I can’t stand her. She can suck it.”

Let me recap for you, Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney (and his understudies Brad Pitt and Matt Damon), Angelina Jolie, Lindsay Lohan (her friend Samantha Ronson), and Pamela Anderson are all on the same page regarding where our votes should go. Doesn’t it make you feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing your choice may in fact, help Lindsay’s girlfriend stay inside our country? I mean, all else equal concerning military direction, economic stability, foreign relations, and taxation, the default vote decider is when in doubt, vote for Obama?

If this is the rationale Hollywood puts forth, they should shut their mouths and continue acting like someone else because who they really are isn’t all that exciting. Sure, the more astute individuals aren’t gutter dwelling name throwers that actually have the ability of rational thought. I may not agree with Clooney, but at least he knows what he is talking about. As for the rest, including Oprah, I don’t have them placed much higher than Pamela Anderson. They are media whores looking for attention. They are political and social issue groupies.

But wait, didn’t Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie help out the New Orleans victims and even donate $100,000 to a gay rights cause? Not to mention they have even adopted a small country… Media darlings are they not? Donations are done from the heart, recognition not necessary. Every time I see a media starlet receive BOLD PRINT headlines about their “donation,” it shows me the true colors of the individuals. You don’t help people to be recognized. You help people because they need it, not because you want people to “look” and gush with admiration over your generosity.

All in all, I’m sick of hearing about Hollywood all-stars throwing their weight around when their vapid thoughts and lives have absolutely nothing in common with the average American. If they are so worried about the ills of our society, live like the rest of us. Live in a house with a 30 year mortgage, stay married to the person you said “I do” to (until death), raise your children BY YOURSELF, drive a car that costs $30,000, and work a job that requires you to think each day for at least 8 hours. That may be asking for too much, maybe I should just ask for them to actually just think for once. Clooney at least understands the premise of thinking, I’m sure the rest of Hollywood can follow suit.

This again is what the media people want because of all the attention that they receive. Can you imagine the average Joe on the street corner telling the media ,” I don’t like him, he can suck it.” That would have been erased and nobody would have ever known that it happened.

Some people think that just because some Hollywood people like or dislike someone,no matter how Dipsy these people are, then that person must be Bad or Good depending on who is talking. Because those people make lots of money and every one knows that Rich people don’t make bad decisions. Yeah Right!!! If that were the case the U.S.A. would be like the Garden of Eden before Eve ate the Apple. Wow I sure hope the media don’t get hold of that sentence because that may put an end to my career, after all I just mixed Religion in with the Government, or maybe I will be a celebrity. HA HA.

It is sad how many people cannot think for themselves, this country is turning into a bunch of followers instead of thinking on their own. It would be very interesting to see how many times our Congressman vote either Present or vote by party line instead of using their own brain. Oh I am very sorry, I just assumed that all of our Congress people had one, since they are paid very well to think for themselves and for us.

The media and socialites in our day and age seem to garner headlines and news time like they are important to the progress of our country. I can’t remember the last time I turned on a news program and didn’t hear something about an A-lister speaking about this or that.

The only reason why they present anything to us is because they have oodles and gobs of money to pour into the Parties via donations, gifts, fund raiser parties, etc. You can’t tell me that Barack Obama actually goes out and seeks the opinion of Pamela Anderson, Angelina Jolie, Barbara Streisand, etc?

How about John McCain seeking the approval of George Clooney, Matt Damon, or Ben Affleck? But the problem is, society does get to hear these people yap and spout forth their inane comments about politics. As you have said, people actually believe this helps them!

I think I’ll reserve my media and celebrity directed politics to the likes of Mr. Rogers and Bozo the Clown. In reality, they probably have more sense than any of the current celebrity crop we are listening to.
